A second thumb hole is optional to support the french fingering according to Remy Dubois.
There are 3 options regarding the position of the lowermost hole (little finger hole)

  1. with an offset to the right (Huemmelchen, Gaita, Cornemuse, Marktsack)
  2. holes in one row (GHB)
  3. with an offset to the left ( for lefthanded persons)
